Summit County Job and Family Services is a designated voter-registration agency. You may register to vote or update your registration when applying for or receiving public assistance. Your decision whether to register will not affect the amount of assistance provided or your eligibility for services.

Ohio residents can register or update information online through the Ohio Secretary of State if they have the required identification information. A paper form is also available and must be signed and returned by the applicable deadline.

Adult Protective Services serves a person who:

• Is age 60 or older
• Is affected by the infirmities of aging or has a physical or mental impairment that prevents the person from providing for their own care or protection
• Lives in an independent living arrangement, such as a private home, apartment or other community setting
• May be experiencing abuse, neglect, self-neglect or exploitation

A report involving someone younger than age 60 may be referred to another community organization when appropriate. Concerns involving residents of nursing homes, other long-term care facilities, or an individual identified as having a development disability may be referred to the Long-Term Care Ombudsman, the Ohio Department of Health, Summit Developmental Disabilities Board or another appropriate agency.

Yes. Non-emergency reports may be submitted through Ohio’s APS Online Referral Portal. To make an anonymous report, call the State of Ohio APS hotline at 855-644-6277 rather than using the online portal.

Share what you know, including the adult’s name and location, approximate age, immediate safety concerns, the nature of the suspected mistreatment, the people involved and how the adult can be reached. Do not delay a report because some information is unknown.

Make a report when you have reasonable cause to believe that a vulnerable adult age 60 or older may be experiencing abuse, neglect, self-neglect or exploitation. You do not need to investigate the concern or have proof before calling. Call 911 when there is immediate danger or a life-threatening emergency.

Eligibility depends on federal immigration status and the specific service. Refugees and certain other humanitarian populations may qualify. Contact the responsible agency for an individual determination.
